The Philadelphia Chapter of Women in Transportation, an international organization dedicated to building the future of transportation through the global advancement of women, honored Philadelphia 30th Street Station District Plan Project Director Natalie Shieh as its “Woman of the Year” at a ceremony on Dec. 1. The award “honors a woman who is an outstanding role model and has contributed to the advancement of women and minorities in transportation.”
Natalie was recognized for her outstanding contributions throughout her career to the transportation industry, but more specifically for her leadership and work on the 30th Street Station District Plan released in June 2016.
Natalie has been involved with every aspect of the 30th Street Station District Plan leading a diverse project team made up of public and private stakeholders and a world class consulting team. In addition, she never lost sight of the importance of community engagement, creating a platform for continued interaction with the public throughout the planning process. The result is a vision for the 30th Street Station District that harmonizes the ideas from all stakeholders.
The District Plan envisions 40 new acres of open space and 18 million square feet of new development around the station, including an entirely new mixed-use neighborhood atop 88 acres of rail yards.
